The adventure started in 1951 in Chagny – Burgundy, and has since taken on a new dimension, punctuated as it was with several external growth milestones in the iconic wine-growing regions of Burgundy, Loire and Rhone valleys, and driven by Michel Picard’s strive for renewed and permanent evolution ever since he joined the company in 1958.
Activity started taking off in the 1960’s and 70’s and the first vineyards were purchased in 1986, in southern Burgundy Côte Chalonnaise on the communes of Montagny and Mercurey, then in the Côtes de Beaune area in Chassagne- Montrachet.
Early 2016, the company owns more than 140 hectares (280 acres) of vineyards, including those located in Condrieu, Cornas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The Foucher wine-house joined the family in 1995.
Located since 1921 in the heart of the centre Loire region, neighboring the communes of Pouilly and Sancerre, Foucher is a boutique winery which strives to offer the most classic expression and diversity of the Loire terroirs.
Grandes Serres has been acquired in 2001.
Based in the mythical vineyard of Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1977, Grandes Serres, very deeply involved in its terroir, has settled as a true specialist of its region and vineyard.
The Denuzière winery is located in Condrieu since 1876 and is now part of the group since 2003.
With more than 100 years of history, Denuzière is highy considered for its expertise and know-how in the sorting and winemaking of the Northern Rhône wines.
Those 5 wine-houses and estates, each with an established regional identity and a proven know-how, have decided to join forces.
Thus was born Prima Vinae in 2013.
